MHSRS For Medical Innovators
The Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) is the DoD’s largest military medical conference of the year. The conference provides a phenomenal opportunity for networking, developing relationships with program managers, showcasing your medical innovations and capabilities, and gaining insights on priorities of the DoD and Veterans Affairs Department.
Military Health System (MHS)
The Military Health System covers approximately 9 million service members and their families. The military is looking for medical innovations that address issues ranging from Combat Casualty Care to Infectious Disease to Telemedicine. It sponsors research to develop such innovations via Broad Agency Announcements, SBIRs, and Grant Program Announcements. MHS leaders along with those from the Veterans Affairs Department, Health and Human Services Department, FDA and BARDA attend the MHSRS each year to learn the latest research and see how best to align with military needs.
Opportunities
MHSRS includes four days of breakout sessions on topics spanning from TBI, PTSD and trauma care to oncology to women’s health. It provides opportunities to make presentations or share posters on your research, plus talk directly with program managers and build relationships and understanding of your innovations. Developing these relationships can be key to accessing funding, as program managers can explain the kinds of opportunities available, timing, and where is the best fit for each R&D effort.
Presentations
In order to present, you must complete a short abstract submission. Abstracts are accepted January 5 – February 16 2022. But the actual MHSRS is not until August 2022 in Kissimmee, FL (typically at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center). You can obtain more information on Breakout Sessions accepting Abstracts at this link: https://mhsrs.amedd.army.mil/SitePages/Sessions.aspx
