Congressional Briefing:
Women and Minority Health Innovation Gaps & Opportunities

Hear from experts on the challenges in investing that block the development of vital innovations by women- and minority-led businesses that can improve patient outcomes for women and minorities while also lowering wasteful and ineffective health expenditures and creating jobs and economic growth across the country.

April 11, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EST

The Women’s Health Innovation Coalition and G2G Consulting invite you to a Congressional Briefing on Women and Minority Health Innovation Gaps & Opportunities on April 11, 2022, from 1PM-2 PM ET.

Background:

  • Just 8% of VC funding went to women-led start-ups in 2019 and that fell to 2.3% in 2020, according to the Harvard Business Review.
  • Black and Latinx founders raised $2.3 billion in funding, representing just 2.6% of the total $87.3 billion in funding that went to all founders in first three quarters of 2020 and for Black- and Latinx-founded companies, 36% have a female founder, according to Crunchbase.
  • Just 4% of research and development being dedicated to women’s health issues, according to Crunchbase.

When women-led startups do get funded, they deliver higher revenue — more than twice as much per dollar invested, according to the Boston Consulting Group. With several health conditions solely, disproportionately and/or differently impacting women and decades of scientific research conducted exclusively on white males that is used today to inform patient care, we must accelerate funding and innovation to address these gaps that too often harm patients and can cost lives and avoidable wasted expenditures.
